Friendship, fellows and food for thought

Hi y'all, Remember the time I talked to you about boring weeks and roller coaster rides? Well another week filled with a lot of crazy crap just passed me by and it literally felt like that. Like I was on the platform when my derailed train called life just raced by me and smashed in a good old cornfield of sorts. As I stood by and watched the darn thing get blown to smithereens all I could think of was - How much does this actually matter on a scale of important stuff? - The answer came as soon as I tried to pick up some of the pieces from the pile. As I tried to figure out what just happened and tried to lift some of the pieces out of the burning ashes it clicked. That train crash, or more specifically that train...that is not my life. That train is my past and somehow the past felt the need to speed up, catch up and completely raise havoc in the now. Watching the pile burn and smoke I decided right there that I do not need the drama of my past to be part of my very difficult li

Tears of defeat and tears of joy.

Hi y'all, Last time we spoke I told you all about tripping over a lose pavement stone and ending up in a bright red plaster cast. The moment that cast came off May 11th I felt like running the world. So I figured I would run a 14km run that Thursday just to get back in the game. Well...next day I woke up with a spiking fever and big huge white tonsils in my throat. What the HELL? All I could think was:'How come the entire universe is conspiring against me??' and I even had to call in sick, it was thát bad. So what can you do? Nothing. Fever is the one thing that you just need to sit out. So I did. Lucky me the fever only lasted about 24 hours and so I figured I could run the 14 km that Saturday and I did. So far so good right? So now the only thing standing between me and my half marathon in Leiden was my last long run. A mere 18.5 kilometers and as it turns out I had a day off on Monday. So me and my man sat out for that long run. Right about kilometer 5 my legs st

How peril and pain derailed my holiday

Hi y'all, Trotting along the yellow brick road has been exciting and honestly quite a breeze until last Sunday. Obviously things were bound to take a turn for the worse because no epic journey is complete without at least one disaster. Last Sunday I encountered my first and it all started with an evil tram driver who appeared to have about the worst day of his life and decided to exit all passengers on the most touristy and crowded spot in Amsterdam; Dam square. Now my run was scheduled to start at Waterlooplein which is about one mile away from Dam square but getting there through the hurds of tourists can be a daunting task. I managed to get there froggering all the way without being bumped into or weed ashed all over (people please....it is disgusting!) and felt excited. I was about to run 15km along Amstel river, through Amstel park and than homeward via Amstelpark, the sluice at nieuwemeer and than Erasmuspark. But at kilometre 3.2 Peril showed up and took shape as a lose
