Feeling a YIHAAAAAW coming on

Hi Y'all,

What's cooking sweeties? Well loads of stuff is brewing on my stove since I embarked on this madness ship and set sail to Marathon finish. I am working with two brilliant people on becoming the best me I can be and the progress I still notice is so motivating! Joris and Esther are miracle workers and both of them have been introduced last time. So what is brewing on my stove? What kind of juicy concuctions are about to be served??

I have been part of Mark Zuckerberg's 'A year of running'  page on Facebook since it started out in January. Why? Well sometimes even the most dedicated and devoted runners get stuck in a rut and I've discovered that reading up on adventures by others helps me find new open places, new faces and the best races. Combine that with the best advice I ever got on post-run items such as my foam roller and this magical cream called Body Glide and there you have it....inspiration. I have had so much help from people all over the world this way. So today I want to help y'all get inspired by the people that inspire me.

First of all there's Twitter. That is not a person, true, but Twitter is one of the best ways to connect to other runners. In the Netherlands the @loopmaatjes account helps you to all kinds of information. When you use #hardlopen they will RT and ask any question, the community will respond. I've met several active runners IRL and I'm still enjoying their updates.  Wanna follow up on me? My twitter handle is @vaneun

Twitter led me to following Kelly Roberts. She's funny, not too shy to speak her mind without being rude and she can get to serious stuff too. I'd say she is well worth a follow. She even started Vlogging recently and is working on her BQ even. Now that is inspiration for me. She gave the world some pretty handy advice too so thanks to her I have the best foam roller ever, bought my first blue pack of body glide and it saved my skin (literally) and she made my wish list of runs even longer than it was before. Thank you Kelly for blogging and vlogging (weird word though) You can find her here  http://www.runselfierepeat.com/ and her twitter handle is @KellyKKRoberts

I said it before, I have been active on 'A year of Running' by Mark Zuckerberg. It is amazing to see how fast a community can grow and what 'waves'  flow through their updates. When starting out most updates were about locality, than we moved on to 'how running changed my life' and now we're all sharing routes & times, asking questions on very important topics such as what shoes to wear or what to eat before and after. Check out this amazing group and join us in this challenge of running 365 miles this year.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/ayearofrunning/

For me A year of running just broke the record of sheer coolness when the races started coming in. And yesterday I added a new level of meaning to my 'keep it unreal and make it happen' motto. Due to an update by Erin Erickson on the amazing runs she has run so far, I have taken on the challenge to run two half marathons in one month. I have registered for the Half Blood Prince Half Marathon by Hogwarts Running Club. Now first I want to say thank you Erin for sharing that piece of info. If it weren't for your post I would have never heard off this amazing running club. What are they? It's a non-profit organization that created the Hogwarts running club. What do they do? You can register for awesome virtual runs. Virtual? What do you mean? Well you register for a race, you pay the registration fee and medal and that money goes directly to a good cause. The HBP half marathon is a fundraiser for pancreatic cancer in honor of Alan Rickman and all others with this disease. Nobody of that organization will check if you actually ran that race to earn the bling you bought for yourself. This organization speaks directly to your runners code, your moral. I'm a huge HP fan, this run suits my motto in more than one way and just think this organization is cool. So check m out http://www.hogwartsrunningclub.org/

Last but not least the Runkeeper App ahs some pretty amazing stuff going on too. Not a person but a community too. Upcoming is their second Global 5K. It is a free virtual race via the app. All you have to do is create an account on Runkeeper (which I recommend using!), accept the Global 5K challenge, run a 5K on May 28th or 29Th anywhere around the world and log it with the app. Show your pride by wearing the bib and making awesome selfies. I have truely enjoyed watching the data come in last time. I'm running it. Are you in? Check out their site https://runkeeper.com

So there it is...I am running Leiden Half Marathon 22nd of May, running the Globak 5K and after that I will run my Half Blood Prince Half Marathon on June 12th. Unreal in every aspect and I'm making it happen.

That's it for now!
Until we read again, as always
Love, Marlies

Doing good feels good

Hi y'all Another week has come and gone and today I wanna share a story with y'all about sharing, doing good and feeling good. For me running is as much a sport I share as it is a solo experience. Now for those following me around you guys know that about me. For those that are just getting to know me: trust me there is no sport out there that in solitary makes you feel like you're part of a group. Just one of the levels of duality in runnning. You are the one doing it but by sharing your run with others, be that virtual or in real life, you will meet the most welcoming, the most supportive group of people ever. I have tried and lived through many sports but only in running did I find likeminded people that set out to better themselves and cheer on others along the way. Only in running have I found people that truely want to see you succeed and only in running have I picked up runners on the brink of giving up and have I been picked up when I was about to give it up altog...

Breaking taboos: The five stages of Runner's trots

Hi y'all After yet another week of teaching and dealing with normal life it seems to become a little easier to combine it all. I wrap my running schedule around my commuter distances to work and that helps. If I'm not running than I'm riding my bicycle to and from work. It's about an 11 or 13 km bike ride depending on the route I take. So switching biking to work for running back makes up for the 11km on Thursday. Now the title of this blog should be warning enough. So if you do not enjoy the dirty parts of running than by all means...STOP READING RIGHT NOW AND GO ABOUT YOUR NORMAL BUSINESS!! Good for you. Even after a fair warning you have decided to stick with me and read on. As you are well aware of I'm running for MLDS (CLICK HERE TO DONATE) a foundation that fights to create funding to help people with stomach/liver/bowel issues. Now after the past few weeks I figured let's see what is happening to me on those 8km-something-runs when I am in dire need of...

Because they get it!

There are moments as a runner when you see the backside of your entire crew the entire race. It is those days, when push comes to shuff, that you will value that same crew even more. You keep going because you have to, because giving up is just not an option, because you can smell the finish line even when you're miles away. Yes you will probably hate yourself for being the slowest one in that crew, you will hate the feeling of all the effort that you've put into that race and not seeing the results but you keep going anyway because you are a runner. Because this time you get to eat the dust but you haven't forgotten the times you stood there watching your buddies finish and feeling their anger, disappointment and pain. You remember those times and you know with all that is you that they will be there. A true crewmember knows what it feels like to just not have it in you that day. It is okay to cry, to kick dirt around, to just shout out horrible words and spit on the flo...
